Coatings for the keypads we manufacture are critical in ensuring usability, longevity and comfort. From low-cost design and fast scalability to low-contact resistance and ease of use, there are many reasons to use conductive coatings.
Here are SiTECH, we offer these four coatings: Chemical, Abrasion, Conductive, Bonding (Adhesive). You may not have the first clue which type of coating your product needs, but that’s OK because our designers and engineers do. They will let you know exactly which coating would be ideal for your particular product.
With our keypads designed for one-of-a-kind applications, you can rest easy knowing our team will enhance the functionality of your keypad with strategically-placed coatings, whether you need a conductive silicone coating or some other type.
Conductive coatings have many benefits such as:
- Ease of use
- No flaking/chipping
- Low-cost design
- Adaptability to many part sizes and product designs
- Flexibility during process of production
- Design flexibility to accommodate conductive pad shapes/uneven surfaces
- Fast scalability for high-volume production
- Homogeneous cross link for a longer-lasting, stronger bond
- Minimal capital investment
- Low-contact resistance
Here’s a look at each of the four coatings we offer here at SiTECH.
1. Abrasion Coatings
If your product is expected to endure a lot of friction (i.e., grinding/rubbing) during operations, go with an abrasion-resistant coating to help prevent galling or seizing.
2. Chemical Coatings
If you have a petroleum-based product like WD40 or motor oil, choose this adaptable, resilient and flexible option.
3. Adhesive or Bonding Coatings
When you have a pressure-sensitive product that needs to be moisture resistant, try a water-based or hot melt adhesive coating. These are:
- Strong
- Able to be reactivated with heat for better levels of adhesion
- Waterproof
- Used with a primer to enhance tension on the surface
4. Conductive Coatings
If you have a product that needs to withstand high-temp applications, you need conductive coatings. These will encourage or limit heat or electricity flow that emanates through your product so it can withstand static or thermal challenges.
With an unmatched adaptability and fast scalability, conductive coatings bring a protective quality to certain products, and are made of 25% solids of non-oxidizing copper. This enables conductivity on the surface.
Our SiCoat V is SiTECH’s proprietary wear-resistant conductive coating, used on all silicone keypads we offer. They work well with our adhesive primers, screened silicone inks, and liquid injection molding processes.
