How Liquid Injection Molding is Used in Medical Keypad Designs

Rubber molding for keypad design has many benefits, not the least of which is due to its versatile nature. It’s what holds the entire piece together, protecting the surface and ensuring a long life span for the device. From portable medical devices to stationary controls, it’s important to choose a material that’s durable and that can conform to highly specific dimensions with very lean tolerance.

Here’s how liquid injection molding can be used for your medical keypad design.

1. Protection

Medical liquid injection molding is desirable because it provides a protective outer shell that keeps fragile devices inside safe. Plus, the covering itself doesn’t scratch easily like touch screens and other materials do. If you have a portable device, such as a defibrillator set cover that takes a lot of abuse while on the go, plastic will scratch and gouge easily as it bangs against walls and floors.

If that covering is made of durable rubber molding, though, it will provide more protection for the device and extend its useful lifespan. This saves you money.

2. Versatility

Medical rubber molding can be used in a multitude of environments, perfect for both indoor or outdoor use. This molding can protect separate pieces of a device, from buttons and keypads to gaskets and plugs. In the case of  a portable medical appliance such as a home blood pressure checking machine, medical liquid injection molding can be used for several different aspects, from tubing to connective pieces.

3. Printing

Medical liquid injection molding can feature labeling, printing or logos, either screen printed or laser-etched. Letters and logos can appear on the top exterior surface or on the underside of the rubber keypad. This labeling is vital because it can offer directions on how to use the device. Plus, it’s easy to use contrasting backgrounds and colors for easy identification. It can also be used to backlight the keys so the lettering is transparent.

4. Flexibility

Rubber keypads can be molded, bent and twisted into specific shapes. Take a gasket, for example, which can fit securely around a blood pressure monitor’s plastic casing and won’t move. Thus, it creates a flat seam on the device’s exterior, giving the protective casing a high level of flexibility. This makes it easier to install yet tough to take off.
